Maroz

I symbolize winter cold, I am the personage of folk tales, legends, seasonal rituals and fairy tales.

I look like the old grey-haired man of small stature and I have a blue or beetroot-red nose. My hair and long white beard are covered with hoarfrost. I wear a coarse heavy caftan made of snow, valenki and mittens.

I have magical power and can influence the state of Nature. People consider me to be the symbol of order, justice, and severity.

But if I appear in late spring, in early autumn or even in summer I am said to the sent by witches or sorcerers.
